Akoma Organic Rosehip Oil
Cold pressed, Unrefined
Therapeutic; beauty and hair products
The Rosa canina fruit oil, also known as Rosa moschata, is cold pressed from the amber/red berry like fruits of the wild rose bush. The amber-red of the oil comes from the colour of the berries at the time of harvesting.
Rosehip oil is very rich in polyunsaturated fats (EFAs) and vitamin C. Vitamin C is vital in the formation of collagen – the tissue which gives skin its firmness – as well as having the powerful antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals. Only a small amount of dietary vitamin C reaches the skin and studies have shown that applying vitamin C topically is twenty times more effective for the skin than taking it orally.
Rosehip is the only vegetable oil that contains natural tretinoin – the acid form of vitamin A also known as all-trans-retinoic acid or ATRA, which replenishes and helps rebuild skin tissue. Vitamin A stimulates and increases the deposition of collagen and supports elastin (which gives skin its elasticity). Also within rosehip oil’s vitamin ‘team’ is vitamin E, with its renowned antioxidant properties that protect the skin from damage at a cellular level. Not surprisingly, rosehip oil is primarily renowned for its use in anti-aging treatments and has been shown to reduce wrinkles, boost collagen and generally rejuvenate the skin’s appearance.
Although the oil’s main association is with the treatment of mature skin, its remarkable properties are therapeutic for a whole range of skin issues, such as scars, pits, stretch marks, psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, dermatitis, burns (including sunburn) and pigmentation.
Essential fatty acids (EFAs) are called ‘essential’ because they are vital to health, yet the body is unable to manufacture them. As already mentioned, this oil is high in EFAs (in particular omega 3 and omega 6). Just two of their specific roles are: cell regeneration and aiding vitamin absorption. Increasing omega oils into the body, both orally and topically, is particularly beneficial for treating psoriasis and eczema.
Common uses: Face oils, massage oil, anti-wrinkle creams, baby products and in rheumatism and circulation treatment oil blends, hair-care for dry and damaged hair, formulas for strengthening nails.
